Pittsburgh @ Houston

Postby Kweh » Thu Dec 23, 2010 6:02 am

Houston starts the game with the ball, and the Miles Austin show begins. Utilizing Austin, Houston quickly drives down the field to go up 7-0.

Cutler and the Steelers get the ball back, and on Cutler's first pass attempt, he throws a pick. Houston pops in a field goal and goes up a quick 10-0.

End 1st, 10-0 Houston.

Carnell Williams gets his legs under him for the Steelers and marches them down the field. Cutler misses a wide open Robert Meachem in the endzone and finds himself on the bench, relieved by J.T. O'Sullivan. O'Sullivan finishes out the drive by handing the ball to Williams who punches it in for 7, 10-7 Houston.

Houston starts their next drive on their own 5, and two quick passes to Austin make it 17-7, just like that.

Williams goes to work again, and O'Sullivan is able to do what Cutler could not and complete a pass. In fact, he completes 2 of them! The Steelers drive down to the 45 with 12 seconds left and try to kick a FG, but it's blocked to end the half.

End 2nd, 17-7 Houston.

Steelers get the ball back, and immediately Williams busts out a huge run. It's all for naught when O'Sullivan throws a pick to LB Brian Cushing in the endzone, though.

Schaub and Austin go to work again, quickly getting the Texans down the field. They drive to the 6 but can't quite get the TD so a field goal it is, 20-7 Houston.

Steelers get the ball back and are working down the field on the back of Williams to start the 4th.

End 3rd, 20-7 Houston.

O'Sullivan misses a wide open Earnest Graham and the coach decides that it's Cutler's turn again. Cutler reacts well to his benching and runs the ball in for a score on the next play, making it 20-14 Houston.

Houston starts their next drive on the 11, and can't get anywhere, but the coach knows they can put the game away with a first down, even after failing on the first three downs. Schaub tries to force the ball into a double covered Austin and gets it picked off by Tyrell Johnson. Williams makes short work of the short field and the Steelers go up for the first time in the game, 21-20.

Not to be deterred, Houston gets the ball back with about 3 minutes left in the 4th. It's Schaub to Austin again and they work the clock down and work their way down to the 22. With just 4 seconds left, Houston goes for the FG. Justin Tuck busts through the line and gets close enough to block it, but Hanson kicks it by him. The ball doinks off the left post, no good!

Steelers win!

Final score
PIT 21
HOU 20

Hell of an opener for my NTL career; I hope they're all this close and fun. Great game.

Carnell Williams ran for 200 yds on 15 attempts and 2 TDs.
Miles Austin had 7 catches for 259 yds and 2 TDs.
